HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition Series Review: The new core i7 laptop by HP with the i7 Quad core is powerful and fun
The HP Pavilion dv6t Quad is one of the finest laptops out there. It comes with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM processor which is 20% faster than other notebooks. For those in the market for a new laptop, you can't get much better than this.
This review of the HP Pavilion dv6t Quad is primarily geared for people who do not have a lot of tech know-how, but I have included the relevant specs on this HP laptop for those who want them. This is a review from a real person with a medium amount of tech skills.
As I type this sentence....I have had this laptop for about two hours. Set up was very straightforward. It comes with an easy to follow "Start Here" guide for understanding the plugs and ports and such.
Once on, the machine takes you through a series of set up procedures and registration info. The whole process took about a half hour.
I will be updating this article every so often. In fact, as I type THIS sentence, it is now day 3 of me owning the laptop. So this review is not all based on the first two hours. I am updating this review as I go along.
UPDATE:
Just to clarify: This is a review of the dv6tqe....... but the name and
details got a little confusing. The model in the video below came out in
early 2011, but then it was recalled for a few weeks (due to an Intel
problem that is now fully resolved. Something to do with the "Sandy
Bridge" chip set which affected many computers across the board. )
HP
has now come out with a better version of the dv6tqe that is almost the
same as the one featured here, but it does not have a touch screen and
it does not have a backlit keyboard option.
It is still a great computer. No heating problems. Fast and fun to use. For more information visit the official HP website at the link below the video.

Review of the touchscreen on the HP
I love it! It functions much like an IPad. You can easily use the keyboard and mouse or simply reach out your hand to use the touch capability.
You can paint, click buttons, create videos, do almost anything with the touch screen.
PLEASE SEE THE NOTE ABOVE. THE TOUCH SCREEN FOR THE DV6TQE MIGHT NOT BE AVAILABLE ANYMORE.
It does understand letters you write on the screen, but so far I have not mastered the use of this feature. Perhaps my writing is a little too sloppy? It sometimes thinks a "U" that I write is a "V" for example.
It seems to have some type of learning capability though, where it can learn your unique writing by giving it feedback. This must be similar to the way voice recognition software learns your voice.
Overall, I am glad I got the touchscreen and am looking forward to years of innovative applications for it.

It is a wise idea to get a 9 cell. It gives the laptop a comfortable tilt, does not weigh that much, and gives you much more battery life.
Primary battery
The best battery will keep you and your Notebook PC working longer
Choices:
6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 6.0 hours of battery life +++ If you plan to use your laptop like a desktop, the 6 cell ought to be good enough. It is the standard.

9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (over-sized) - Up to 10.0 hours of battery life +++
One 6 Cell and One 9 Cell Lithium-Ion Battery
The Display
I love the display. It is big enough without making the laptop too bulky or awkward to carry around.
One thing that seems strange to me is that the default settings upon first getting the laptop are not great. There are all kinds of toolbars pre-installed on the laptop that give you less screen space. They make the display smaller than it needs to be.
All you have to do is click "view" and you can change the toolbars and status bars to give you more screen space.

Warranty 1-year limited hardware support: This is good. I spoke to HP and they said it is a generous year. and during that time if something is broken they will replace the part at no charge, plus help you do it through tech support
You do get Support. You get thirty-Days Free Limited Software support, plus One-year limited hardware.
Finger Print Reader on the HP
I decided to go ahead and use the finger print feature. It totally works. It took me a little while (20 minutes) to get it set up and learn the ropes. At first I was sliding my finger too slowly.
But now that it is set up, it really works! With one slide of my finger I can log in to
gmail, for example. Just by sliding it
fills in my email and pass word AND logs me in.
So one swoop saves two steps. Occasionally you need to slide twice before it will read, but even then it is still pretty fast.
A comment on the Build:
As far as build goes, this laptop is very sturdy and scratch resistant.
Three small things I would prefer were different about this laptop:
Although the track pad works well, the "right click" and "left click" buttons are very stiff. I am sure I will get used to them, but for now I prefer using an external mouse.
Sadly, Windows 7 is probably not compatible with my old printer. I have a great HP printer from about nine years ago and there does not seem to be a driver for it. I have no idea which printers will work and which ones will not with the dv6t. Most printers probably do work, but if yours is very old, realize it might not be compatible.
Hmmmm... I am trying to think of a third thing I don't like about this laptop, but I am having trouble.
Okay, here is something: The free video editing software that comes with this computer is Windows Live Movie Maker. It is okay, but not great. If you are used to Windows Movie Maker, Windows Live Movie maker does not have as many features.
The solution: I found pout it is possible to get Windows Movie Maker and use it with Win7. You have to get a slightly older version which was made for Vista but also works with Win7. Get Windows Movie Maker 2.6 and it works also for Win7.
Conclusion
If you are looking for something zippy, intuitive and well built, this may be the perfect laptop for you. It is great for video editing, handling large amounts of music, organizing photos and general web surfing.
